The Bayer Group in 2009 once again increased its sales in Turkey compared to the previous year. “ We closed 2009 successfully despite the challenging environment and were able to grow our business by 1% adjusted for currency effects to €428.6 million,” Bayer Türk CEO Dr. Sebastian Guth concluded when announcing the 2009 results. “Our business in Turkey has proven resilient to the crisis and we are confident about the future development of our company in Turkey in the coming years.”

Sales in Bayer HealthCare and Bayer CropScience, accounting for more than 80 percent of Group sales in Turkey, markedly increased in 2009. Adjusted for currency effects Bayer's business in HealthCare and CropScience expanded in 2009 by 5.4 and 2.9 percent respectively. Bayer HealthCare grew above its operational market and gained further market share while maintaining its position as the 2nd largest player in volume in Turkey. Bayer CropScience benefited specifically from the strong growth in its Environmental Science / BioScience segment which grew by 16.6 percent currency adjusted.

Sales of Bayer MaterialScience, the high-performance materials business of Bayer, declined by 13.9 percent, currency adjusted, as the main customer industries were impacted by the global economic crisis and selling prices decreased. Specifically in the second half of 2009, however, volumes started increasing again.

Bayer focusing on sustainable success

"Bayer has been in Turkey for more than 50 years and has stayed focused on developing its presence in Turkey in good and more difficult times.” said Sebastian Guth. “I strongly believe that Bayer has the right business and people in Turkey to turn challenges into opportunities.
