The deadline to sign-up for the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Programme, conducted in cooperation by Bayer and UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) in order to create awareness in the young for sustainable development and attract attention to the role of the industry in environmental protection has been extended until 15 July. The theme for the project, inwhich Turkey participates for the second time and realizes it in cooperation with WWF-Turkey, is “Who has got the campaign to save the world?”

Bayer, the international enterprise in healthcare, nutrition, and advance technology products, organizes the second Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Programme to contribute to sustainable development in Turkey this year, in cooperation with UNEP. Young people who want to take part in the “Campaign to Save the World” will be able to send their projects until 15 July.

Students who wish to become a Bayer Young Environmental Envoy will prepare a campaign to create public awareness on global climate change, and the award-winning two students will represent Turkey internationally.

The ‘Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Programme’ was initiated in Thailand in 1988. It is now realized on an international platform with the participation of 16 countries from the Far East, Latin America and East Europe, including Brasil, China, and Poland. Within the scope of the programme, Bayer welcomes around 50 environmental envoys from various countries in Germany for one week to educate on sustainable development. In the Young Environmental Envoys Conference organized in Germany, young people get the chance to see first hand efficient utilization of natural resources, re-cycling processes and modern production techniques like ecological assessment of a product’s lifecyle including R&D, production, marketing and sales.

“WHO HAS GOT THE CAMPAIGN TO SAVE THE WORLD?”

Within the scope of the “Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Programme” realized for the 2nd time by Bayer Türk in cooperation with WWF-Turkey (World Wildlife Fund) and supported by AIESEC, a project competition named “Who has got the Campaign to Save the World” will be organized among university students. The aim of the competition is to attract attention to the effects of the biggest environmental disaster of the 21st Century, the global climate change, such as temperature increase, fast melting ice caps, changing rain patterns, and draughts.

The projects will be evaluated in accordance with the criteria “Creativity”, “Rationality”, “Practicality”, and “Sustainability” by a jury including academicians and journalists, and the students proposing the two award winning projects will be appointed Young Environmental Envoys to represent Turkey.

The Young Environmental Envoys will have the chance to represent Turkey in the Young Environmental Envoys Conference to be organized in Germany on 2-7 November 2008, and will share their projects with international participants. Bayer Young Environmental Envoys will also have an opportunity to undergo training in Bayer Türk if they wish, and will win a laptop.
