İstanbul - Bayer CropScience in Turkey has opened its first AgroArena in 2008 to turkish
farmers on Wednesday, 15. May, in Kesan, Trakya. The AgroArena is a new communication concept to
demonstrate farmers in Turkey ways to improve their cereal production in yield and quality by using
modern growing techniques and state-of-the-art crop protection products. The AgroArena consists of
a cereal field which is specifically dedicated to show different Bayer crop protection solutions to
the farmers, under a concept from ‘seed to harvest’. The field was chosen by Bayer technical field
staff, and after the sowing it was cared exclusively by Bayer with the best knowldge and products
available.
“By this concept we want to show what is possible for turkish farmers today to improve their cereal production, even under sometimes challenging conditions. To improve yields and quality should be the first objective of the farmers nowadays, looking at wheat prices and the tight supply situation.” Sven Rappsilber, Head of Bayer CropScience in Turkey, explained. Rappsilber outlined that Bayer CropScience has a strong portfolio in cereals, starting from high-quality seed treatment products, best-working herbicides to high-performance fungicides – all adapted to the specific needs of the farmers in Turkey.
Necmi Aydogdu, project coordinator and product manager seed treatment products and fungicides in Bayer CropScience Turkey adds, “We have improved our field selection compared to last year, and increased the number of plots with different treatment sequences. This will increase the attractiveness of our AgroArena.”
AgroArena aims at information, exchange and solutions
The AgroArena shows in different plots the usage of various treatment programmes, and illustrates the performance of modern crop protection products. The AgroArena programme for the farmers is concluded with presentations by product experts and education in the safe handling of agrochemicals.
“Last year, with our first AgroArena ever in Turkey, we received an overwhelming feedback from the participants. This encouraged us, to extend the concept in 2008 to 4 places on 2 different crops, wheat and cotton.” emphasizes Rappsilber. “We plan to host in total more than 4.000 guests in 2008. We believe that this investment will be appreciated by the farmers.”
